No full auto.
Wrong, BigJacqo. PLR = PISTOL, Long Range. Adding a vertical grip to a pistol changes it to an AOW, which requires a $200 tax stamp. Check the laws.
is there an full auto on it like the glock?
Incorrect. The vertical grip on the forend is legal. It would not be legal if a stock was added. Check the laws.
If you attach a shoulder stock to the PLR, it then becomes a short-barreled rifle. You would need permission from the ATF to do so, as well as a $200 tax stamp.
Once those hurdles are cleared, you can buy a Kel-Tec pistol-grip stock conversion kit for the SU-16, the rifle version of this firearm, and attach it to the PLR.
No, there is no ATF paperwork involved in putting the forestock on the PLR. The forestock is of course the bit with all the rails on it. You can buy one directly from Kel-Tec and install it yourself without running afoul of the law.
However, if you should want to attach a vertical foregrip to the forestock, then you need Uncle Sam’s permission and a $200 tax stamp first. Your best bet in that scenario is to register it as a short-barreled rifle.
Does it change the legality of the weapon at all to put the forestock on it? I thought it was classified as a pistol type gun so I was just wondering. I’m thinking about maybe picking one of these up to mess around with.
Hey, with a lifetime warranty why worry?
What the hell is the deal with the plastic trigger on these guys? Maybe I haven’t noticed, but none of my other firearms especially including polymers all have metal triggers. I question the durability of this firearm, so much that Im considering having my gunsmith fashion a new alloy trigger. Ive seen the vids of people bump firing their PLR’s and I havent heard of any of the triggers snapping but it kinda worries me. Why didnt Kel Tec cough up an extra $2 and put in a metal trigger?
Can they have a stock fitted?
Jim assures me that the A2 style flash hider doesn’t vent on the bottom 40 degrees, and the PLR-16 has fired many rounds and the Surefire G2 tac light is still doing fine. Cool! Jim has forgotten more about guns than I’ll ever know, so I’m not surprised that he has a nice PLR-16 setup. It’s a super fun gun.
If that’s a compensator and it vents toward the tactical flashlight, it might mess up the tac light. There’s a lot of muzzle blast. I had the PLR in a shooting sled and a tough plastic ammo box was about 5″ below and the shock wave cracked the top.
